This is an absolutely stunning antique Italian Madonna Santo that dates from the 19th century. Discovered recently In Naples - where it originates from - this gorgeous Madonna is created from hand carved wood arms and legs, while the face is made from terracotta with glass eyes. The body is constructed from threads and ropes on a wire frame. Hands can be placed in a desired position as they move. The santo measures about 48 x 15 x 15 cm or approximately 18.8 x 5.9 x 5.9 inches and it is exactly as I discovered it with minor signs of ageing mainly seen in a lovely patina created by the passage of time.
