The Christmas Table

It’s time to bring out the best china, a time for sparkling glass and silverware and a time to share and savour and the DC dealers have been posting some alluring objects to get everyone in the mood to dazzle this Christmas. 

We have chosen some of our favourite pieces to inspire, but this is just the tip of the Christmas iceberg – there are 
many tantalising Yuletide gift and decoration ideas on offer from all our DC dealers!

1. The table is the centrepiece of the home in the festive season and this Mid Century glass and brass beauty from LIVING IN STYLE GALLERY, with its beautiful scrolled brass baseis a showstopper. Priced at £3950.

 

2. Set the scene with glasses and nibbles arranged on this exquisite tray from ANTIQUES AND DECORATIVE, priced at £285.  Larger than usual, this 19th century tole tray was purchased in Sweden and is decorated profusely with oriental scenes, flowers and figures, the colours still vibrant, beautifully painted and intact below the crazed surface.  

 

 

3. A pair of C19th English cut glass decanters etched with vines from FONTAINE DECORATIVE would play an essential role in any Christmas feast.  Priced at £295.

 

4. For some Christmas cool these C18th copper pans from a Normandy hotel would make great champagne and wine coolers.  From FRENCH LOFT and priced at £120 each.

 

 

5.  Six Bohemian cut glass and silver plate wine coasters, C1930, with a festive snowflake influence, would be a perfect gift or addition to the Christmas table.  From DAVID GRIFFITH ANTIQUES Priced at £320. 

 

 

6.  A darling stocking filler in the form of a pair of owls as a cruet set from HOUSE OF HUMMINGBIRD  Perched atop a branch stand, they make such a sweet and fun addition to the table. They are so detailed, and have such charm about them, that they are impossible to resist. Unique and quirky, they will make a perfect gift for someone with a sense of fun! Circa 1950 and priced at £74.

 

 

7.  A rare and wonderful pair of French Art Deco, chrome and glass candlesticks with swivel motion on octagonal bases in wonderful pristine condition, would make the most sensational glittering centrepiece from CALLIE HOLLENDEN priced at £1850.

 

8.  THE VINTAGE ENTERTAINER has a dizzying range of tableware and this particularly fine quality set of 8 diamond cut crystal champagne flutes, Circa 1900 caught our eye – chin chin!  Priced at £195 for the set.

 

 

9.  This fine example of 18th Century hand-painted porcelain chocolate pot from the celebrated manufacturer of Mennecy-Villeroy in France won a place on our list for its sheer beauty and the chocolate connection. The pot from AEOLOGY at RELIC ANTIQUES  shows a hand painted scene of a peasant woman milking a goat. on a yellow background. It has a traditional wooden handle and the lid has a hole so that the chocolate could be stirred using a wooden baton. The Duc de Villeroy (1695-1766) was a courtier of Louis XIVwho in 1748 established a soft-paste porcelain factory at his chateau near the village of Mennecy, close to Paris. The pot is marked with the factory's signature D.VAlso read interesting Wikipedia online article on Mennecy-Villeroy porcelain for further information.  Priced at £285.

 

10.  And finally the essential platter – a very rare and decorative large servery plate - white with delightful vine leaves and fruit motif around the border to accommodate the largest Christmas  turkeyCirca 1850 from APPLEY HOARE priced at £500
