18C. Porcelain Chocolate Pot from France

AEOLOGY at RELIC ANTIQUES
Fine example of 18th Century hand-painted Porcelain Chocolate Pot from the celebrated manufactory of Mennecy- Villeroy in France. The Chocolate pot shows a handpainted scene of a peasant woman milking a goat. on a yellow background. It has a traditional wooden handle and the lid has a hole so that the chocolate could be stirred using a wooden baton. The Duc de Villeroy (1695-1766) was a courtier of Louis XIV , who in 1748 established a soft-paste porcelain factory at his chateau near the village of Mennecy, close to Paris. The factory's signature mark was D.V.- see photo of underneath of the chocolate pot. Also read interesting Wikipaedia online article on Mennecy-Villeroy porcelain for further information.

I don't specialise in china and pottery but I like everything associated with Tea, Coffee and Chocolate and I found this interesting and original piece at an antique fair in France and thought some chocolate lover would appreciate it.

The pot measures 8 inches high x 3.5 diameter. The wooden handle is almost 5 inches long . In very good condition.

Period:

c.1750-1790
