American Royal Family 1607-1776 silver teaspoons

A commemorative set of sterling silver teaspoons made in 1975 for the 200th anniversary of American independence from British rule. The spoon bowls and handles are silver, hallmarked for London with LIH as maker, and the sculpted heads are gilded. The spoons do not appear to have been used, with no dents or signs of wear.
The exquisitely cast busts depict each of the British monarchs who reigned from the establishment of the first British colony in America in 1607 under James I until the country’s independence in 1776 under the reign of George III. Each monarch is named in the presentation case, a navy blue outer with the Royal coat of arms and padded lining which is showing signs of age and discolouration.
A delightful and unusual gift for anyone interested in American history and the special relationship between Great Britain and its colony.
Spoons 11cm / 4.25” approximate length, each weighing c. 37g
Case 38.5cm / 15” x 16.5cm / 6.5” x 3.7cm /1.5”
Total weight (spoons & case) 1196 g

Jonathan Dyas has been indulging his passion for antiques for over 30 years; from an early interest in restoring original pieces and researching their provenance, has grown an established antiques business based in South West London. As decorative styles and tastes evolve, his quest for both quality and quirky items has resulted in AJD Contemporary - an eclectic mix of furniture and accessories spanning many design periods. Whether crafted in the 17th or 21st century, good quality and expert design are to the fore, as antique and modern pieces increasingly co-exist in traditional and contemporary spaces.

Current stock ranges from oak coffers made in the reign of Charles I to iconic film posters from the sixties - and much more in between. While Jonathan’s enthusiasm for fine Georgian furniture is undiminished, he continues to expand his inventory to reflect his clients’ tastes in new areas such as 20th century art and sculpture.

AJD Contemporary is an online business with all items available to view by appointment.
