Oil painting of village gardens

A 1940s, oil on canvas, garden landscape painting by Josephine Ghilchik (1890-1981)

A fabulous, English garden landscape painting, depicting the view from an upstairs window of 1940's rural village gardens, including a variety of plants, outbuildings, a figure reading in a deckchair and a chicken coop. All set beneath a clouded summer sky with distant countryside views and all executed in a lovely light, illustrative style.

Josephine Ghilchik studied art at the Municiple School of Art, Manchester. Then, Josephine Matley Duddle she met and married fellow student and artist David Ghilchik.

In good condition with an old and small patch repair and some discolouration to edges of canvas from a previous frame.

I trained in theatre design at University and have, for the past thirty years, been self employed as a mural and trompe l'oeil artist, as well as working alongside my husband Peter, of Arabesque Antiques, mostly in careful restoration, occasionally giving my opinion.

Perhaps, given my previous experience, it's natural that my new venture embraces art, and I am excited to be branching out into dealing in art and paintings.

I buy works I would like to own personally, where in my opinion the artist has shown skill with texture, colour and composition.

Hopefully others will love them too.
