Smashing, semi-abstract table top still life depicting a tazza of caramel coloured chestnuts, an inky blue table sports an orange halo of an ashtray with four cigarettes. Two books, painted in thick ultramarine blue and post box red. The background is a sensational juxtaposition of daffodil yellow and celery green.

About the Artist

Arwid Karlson was a Swedish landscape painter, born in 1918 and based in and around Malmö.

Whilst the majority of his paintings are of the Skåne countryside (painted between 1948 and 1960), he did make study trips to France (Paris), Spain and Portugal.
