1942, Swedish Still Life Painting, 'Hyacinth.'

Swedish Still Life oil Painting BIRGIT HYGRELL (1903 -1972)

Joyous mid-century painting depicting a wedding-white, hyacinth in full flower, its rustling tissue paper wrapped around a terracotta pot. Loosely painted in an impressionist style with happy dabs of spring fresh colour.

About the artist

Birgit studied at Valand's painting school in Gothenburg in 1922 and at the Stockholm Academy of the Arts 1922-1925.

Regular study trips to France, Italy and Switzerland.. She carried out a large number of solo exhibitions and regularly participated in the Västerås artists' exhibitions. Among her public works is a mural at Jakobsbergsskolan in Västerås.

Her art consists of still lifes , figures, portraits , boats, architecture and landscape motifs from Stockholm and St. Tropez. Hygrell is represented at Västerås Art Museum .

Trained in graphic design and illustration, Kitty worked for publisher Macmillan, as a senior designer and is responsible for the design of the classic children's book 'The Gruffalo'.  Kitty has worked for many years as a vintage and food stylist, she has a keen eye for stylish mid-century decorative pieces.  She has written and styled 5 books including the best selling Sweets Made Simple, the companion book to the couple's BBC TV show of the same name.

The couple argue incessantly through Kitty is wise enough to know that one should let your man think he wears the trousers.
