Chinese bureau

BRANCHING OUT ANTIQUES
A very striking and impressive late 19th Century hardwood bureau in the Chinese taste, boldly and deeply carved in relief with sinuous dragons on all 4 sides,
within borders filled with trailing floral ornament, bats and geometric motifs. Twin shaped panels to top, the slope enclosing two pigeon holes, two small drawers and shelves enclosed by a rising panel, fitted three long drawers under, on square feet. Original label to the interior: Ganemede, wood carver & papier mache maker, Srinagar, Kashmir, India. A rare find, in untouched country house condition, some fading and a few imperfections with time, but generally good and original with no repairs.

At the age of 66 and and looking back at my life, it's all been about antiques, almost 50 years of buying and selling antiques, and collecting antiques when I could afford to.

Starting my apprenticeship as a 'runner' for the Trade at the age of 17, I went on to Portobello market and Bermondsey Market for further training! And never looked back.

It taught me that people are extremely discerning when it comes to buying antiques, so in following that principle as a dealer, I should be as discerning as them, and that I should never compromise, either in quality or in personal taste.

I have owned many shops along the way, all of which have had their own style and individuality.

My stock follows trends and fashions of course, as I personally evolve with them, but what you see comes from a very personal selection rather than a fashion driven choice.

What you will find here is never ostentatious but one hundred per cent honest.

What do I tend to sell? Out of the ordinary, things with a twist, some Folk Art, some French pieces if they have 'lived', some country house, paintings and antique taxidermy.
