19th-Century Landscape With Horse, Cart & Farm

A late 19th-century oil on canvas depicting a horse and cart rattling its way along a country track before a farmhouse with sheep. It’s been painted with lively colourful brushmarks and you can feel how much the artist enjoyed creating it.

Behind the horse and cart, a female figure, perhaps the farmer’s wife, is working alongside two grazing sheep. While on the left, by the farmhouse, several chickens are pecking through their feed.

The painting is housed within a good later frame.
