Fermín Arango Barcia, Naked Maya, Signed, Framed

COLLECTIT! by SPECTANDUM
About the artist
Ignacio Zuluaga y Zabaleta (1870 - 1945) was a Spanish genre painter of beautiful women in sensual and erotic poses. “La Maya Nue” is a painting with a subject that is used several times by artists, such as Francisco Goya, “Maja Nue” (1797 - 1800) or the 1958 film “La Maja Nue”. The artist signs the painting. This engraving is the thirtieth of 300 copies.

Description
The painting represents a naked woman lying on a sofa, with a black lace scarf draped around her shoulders, being the only thing covering her up. She’s carrying a fan in her left hand. The curtains are half closed, but the blue sky suggests that it’s daytime. The parrot sitting next to the woman on the sofa merges with colours. The pose of the woman is quite suggestive, as well as the rest of the scene. The canvas exudes an air of sexuality imposed both by the nudity of the woman and her seductive look.

For COLLECTIT! by SPECTANDUM owner Guy Kuypers, the history of his collecting began at the Porte de Clignancourt in Paris with a Napoleon III case filled with Exotic Birds. The colorful birds piqued my imagination and became the beginning of a passion for Natural History, Ethnography, European Works of Art, Antiquities and Curiosities that drive me on all continents, looking for fascinating and rare objects. Whether they are natural or man-made, all have an interesting story to tell.

So, it is finally in this spirit that the collection, which encompasses Natural History, Tribal Art, Paintings, Sculptures and Curiosities from many cultures and periods in history finds its rationale and its roots.
