17th.c. Welsh Oak Box Settle c.1670.

Rare 17th.c. Welsh oak box settle c.1670. Simple design in solid oak throughout. The backrest with two long raised and fielded panels between unusually wide rails and tall stiles with rounded tops. Straight arms over a seat of thick oak boards, the centre panel lifting to reveal useful storage space inside for boots and shoes etc. Raised and fielded panels below the seat matching those on the backrest. Flat panels to the sides and rear of the base. Note the the traditional pegged construction and the neat shaped detail where the arm supports meet the seat. Also the initials MI carved into the centre of the backrest. Excellent colour and patina. Restored in our workshops with repairs at the bottom of the rear stiles and replacement oak floor boards.
