Large 19th.c. Chinese Dragon Carved Screen.

Remarkable late 19th.c. Chinese carved four panel screen or room divider c.1880. Very nearly seven feet tall in a very heavy rosewood type hardwood timber. Four 20″ wide folds, each with identical design. Featuring long panels carved with pairs of writhing dragons with scaly bodies, strange forked lower jaws and with a row of flowers to their heads. The top of the screen and the smaller panels feature further dragons, some fighting with serpents, all set within a floral ground. Yet more dragons, dragon’s heads and flowers to the frame, the uprights topped with carved finials. Joined with steel hinges, the rear is left plain. Excellent original condition, simply cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
