Humidor with secret compartment by Glynn Lockett

CUBBIT ANTIQUES
An impressive humidor by Glynn Lockett applied with Crocodile skin and gilt mounts. The top surmounted with a crocodile with sapphire eyes, next to an undulating lapis lazuli panel simulating a river, the cedar wood fitted interior with gilt cigar cutter and piercer above a drawer fitted with paraphernalia including a gilt metal razor blade, small oval box, straw, and spoon and mirrored panel. Just lift the pin to reveal the hidden compartment. This is a fantastic opportunity to start collecting at the beginning of a collection, all pieces are handmade one off pieces.

Glynn Lockett studied Art and Sculpture, before setting up his own restoration studio where he started to make his own objects using rare and precious materials. Influenced by the great 16th century collectors of ethnographic and natural history artefacts originally displayed in cabinets of curiosities of Kunsthammer, his pieces all using natural and often precious materials, have a both historical and modern twist exploring the symbiosis between the finished artwork and the materials used.

In my 20's I worked for Chesney's, one of biggest fireplace companies in the UK. Although I only got to work there for a few years, a passion for fireplaces and everything antique and architectural started to grow. Fortunately for me, I had two very good friends who ran an architectural yard and have over 20 years combined experience in the antique and architectural game. Over many pints and discussions we started to work together travelling up and down the country and even overseas, buying everything from fireplaces, lighting and garden antiques.

Although we have spent years running fabulous items to some of biggest dealers in London, the plan has always been to open a shop and get a website up and running. We slowly collected everything from fireplaces to lighting and everything in between. We opened Cubbit Antiques on Lillie Road in London a few years ago and the shop has been doing great, enabling us to grow and meet with a great clientele. Whilst we sell online, you can't beat seeing and touching an item in the flesh and we hope you will be able to visit our showroom, nestled amongst a number of antique shops
