Item Description
A fruitwood comb back Windsor chair, sometimes referred to as a Goldsmith chair as it bears a resemblance to the chair once owned by 18th Century author, Oliver Goldsmith, now in the V&A. Egg and reel turned legs, both front and rear, united by a simple tapered H-stretcher. The shaped elm seat with two curved arm supports and a three part arm, the outer most elements of which have a swept out handhold. The upper sticks of the backrest supporting a crest with an ‘ear’ either end. The whole piece in a very pleasing golden chestnut colour. Minor repair as shown. Late 18th Century, attributed to the West Country.
