Antique Chinese Painted Sideboard

Large late 19th century Chinese sideboard cabinet with original paint and lacquer. The lacquer and paint has taken on a sumptuous patina over its 100 or so year life and it’s this that gives the cabinet its unique rustic charm. The original flowers, painted to each door, somehow soften the straight and geometric lines of the piece. Right at home in a rustic, country setting but equally would provide for a feature piece in a modern contemporary scheme. Two cupboards with two doors each and four drawers above. Provides cavernous storage with the shelved interior (shelves easily removed if not required). A good, solid statement piece of furniture. Possibly Shanxi Provence. Late 19th century.

At Cunningham White's we source decorative antiques and furniture. We are guided by great decorative value, recognising the emotion that can be gained from owning something that just looks and feels so good. We don't pin ourselves down to one particular style or period. We simply love good looking things.

Sam finds and Naomi fixes (although sometimes it's the other way round) and as a team we manage to always have a quality selection of stock in our collection.

We believe that antiques are the future. Timeless, quality pieces add so much character to any scheme and can make a house into a home. They are sustainable. They haven't been thrown away because they are made to last and they can be fixed. We do that bit for you (if it's needed). Antiques reflect our individuality and connect us to past generations. We will always try and find out the provenance of a piece and share that with our customers.

We gladly welcome visitors but please let us know when you plan to visit as we're often out. Our workshop is based in the grounds of a working rescue farm in the characterful, vibrant and independently minded community of Totnes in beautiful South Devon.
