Collection of Apostle Portraits

A full set of 13 portraits of Jesus (‘Salvator Mundi’) and his 12 apostles.
Dating from the late 18th / early 19th century, they are well painted in watercolours and each is framed in an original water-gilded deep timber frame. The frames have plenty of characterful wear and some losses of the gesso to some of the outer edges. Each portrait is labelled in Latin. They are all glazed with old glass with imperfections and tiny air bubbles as with all old hand made glass.

A rather exquisite and rare collection of miniature portraits which also have wonderful decorative appeal. Late 18th / early 19th century. European.

Price is for the collection.

Each portrait including frame - H: 18cm W: 15cm D: 3.5cm

  • H: 18cm (7.09in)

At Cunningham White's we source decorative antiques and furniture. We are guided by great decorative value, recognising the emotion that can be gained from owning something that just looks and feels so good. We don't pin ourselves down to one particular style or period. We simply love good looking things.

Sam finds and Naomi fixes (although sometimes it's the other way round) and as a team we manage to always have a quality selection of stock in our collection.

We believe that antiques are the future. Timeless, quality pieces add so much character to any scheme and can make a house into a home. They are sustainable. They haven't been thrown away because they are made to last and they can be fixed. We do that bit for you (if it's needed). Antiques reflect our individuality and connect us to past generations. We will always try and find out the provenance of a piece and share that with our customers.

We gladly welcome visitors but please let us know when you plan to visit as we're often out. Our workshop is based in the grounds of a working rescue farm in the characterful, vibrant and independently minded community of Totnes in beautiful South Devon.
