Huge Wool Mill Basket

CUNNINGHAM WHITE'S
A huge early 20th century industrial mill basket, originally from James Shires & Sons of Huddersfield, established in 1864. With a wonderfully characterful misshapen appearance from years of abuse in an industrial setting, the basket remains solid and completely useable. Often called ‘wool skips’, these baskets were used to pile fleeces in and then dragged around different parts of the mill. As such, it has three wooden runners attached to the underside. Very small amount of historic woodworm, thoroughly treated as a precaution. Double handles to either side. Old paper tags and painted labels.

In completely original condition. Early 20th century.

At Cunningham White's we source decorative antiques and furniture. We are guided by great decorative value, recognising the emotion that can be gained from owning something that just looks and feels so good. We don't pin ourselves down to one particular style or period. We simply love good looking things.

Sam finds and Naomi fixes (although sometimes it's the other way round) and as a team we manage to always have a quality selection of stock in our collection.

We believe that antiques are the future. Timeless, quality pieces add so much character to any scheme and can make a house into a home. They are sustainable. They haven't been thrown away because they are made to last and they can be fixed. We do that bit for you (if it's needed). Antiques reflect our individuality and connect us to past generations. We will always try and find out the provenance of a piece and share that with our customers.

We gladly welcome visitors but please let us know when you plan to visit as we're often out. Our workshop is based in the grounds of a working rescue farm in the characterful, vibrant and independently minded community of Totnes in beautiful South Devon.
