Item Description
This large stylish lino cut of a jay amidst cherry blossom is a work by artist Carol Walklin - a leading British printmaker and educator of the 20th century. She wrote a number of books on printmaking and design, and served as mentor to many of the current generation of printmakers.
Jay in the Cherry Tree is a striking composition, a portrait of the bird in its habitat. The simplicity of a single bird species depicted on a single plant species is reminiscent of the work of Japanese artist Rakusan Tsuchiya, some of whose woodblock prints we also have available.
This lino cut is one of a limited edition of just ten copies, and forms part of a small and experimental series that Walklin produced, depicting British birds among flowers.
Pencil signed, titled and numbered 8/10, glazed and framed.
The frame: 70cm wide, 63cm high
