Japanese Bronze Daruma Meiji Period.

Bodhidharma in China called Daruma in Japan was an early disciple of Buddha in the 5th/6th century.
He was responsible for Chan Buddhism in China equating to Zen in Japan and also took his beliefs
to India.
He is always depicted with a down turned mouth and a frown.
This bronze sculpture is simple of high quality and serene.
The ring in his left ear is free to move.
The stand is faux Rosewood and later.
