Item Details

Antique Beshir rugs, woven by the Beshir tribe of Turkmenistan in Central Asia, have a distinctive weaving style in a region where most rugs can be recognised by their so called elephant foot patterns and deep blues and reds.

This stylish Beshir  has a remarkable crisp drawing and a faded grey colour field complementing the overall monochrome drawing, framed by eight artistic borders. The pomegranate design in the field symbolises properity and fertility. In good practical condition, still retaining its fringes and borders on all four sides, a remakable feature for a rug dating c.1900.  A timeless example to complement a wide variety of settings.
