Square shape antique Mahal carpet

This piece is associated with a group of carpets commissioned in west Persia during the Late 19th-Early 20th century to complement western furnishing tastes. Appreciated for their unique grand scale  proportions, quiet formality and soft colours they are often seen gracing grand houses in Europe and the UK yet are versatile enough to complement contemporary settings.

This handsome example has a pleasant terracotta field that complements the harmonious vegetable dyed colours. The creative drawing is spacious in relation to its size, framed by a wide border. It is in good practical condition, still retaining its original fringes and selvedges.  A decorative carpet to complement a wide variety of settings, rare in this square shape.

Gallery Yacou is a family owned business run by Robin Yacoubian and his father, Ezekiel, and has been in the family for over four generations specialising in antique, decorative and contemporary carpets.

We passionately believe in the importance of choosing the right rug for each individual room, and that the rug not only complements the space but adds depth and soul to it.

With our broad depth of knowledge and collective experience, we are able to advise our clients on the various options we have in our collection that would complement the various spaces.

We work with a range of clients including leading interior designers and architects, members of the design industry, hoteliers, private clients and collectors. Some of the projects for which we have provided rugs include grand listed buildings, hotels, embassies, modern city apartments, 17th century abbeys, country houses and residential homes.

We have just recently relocated from our showroom on the Fulham road to our studio/workshop in North London.

We are members of the antique dealers associations, BADA and LAPADA, and an Industry Partner of BIID, the British Insititute of Interior Design, and exhibit annually at the BADA & LAPADA Fairs. Please email us using the enquiry form opposite, if you would like a complimentary ticket to any of these Fairs.
