Item Description

Circa 1924, oak table made for Liberty & Co, London. The table has rectangular top and stylish selection of woods, and stands on four stylish, almost Corinthian-style bulbous legs. At the bottom of the legs there is a larger oak bezel and the whole piece stands on a low refectory-style stretcher. These tables were designed in 1924 for the Liberty Building, the great Tudor building, in Marlborough Street, London. Most of the tables were designed by Sir Robert Lorimer, and made by Liberty at their own workshops. This table doesn’t show any Lorimer influence, but was removed from the Liberty shop, so the assumption is that it was made by Liberty & Co. The table has been re-polished after its eighty-odd years of service in the shop.
