Bath Cabinet Makers Amboyna Chest of Drawers

HAND OF GLORY
A Bath Cabinet Makers inlaid burl amboyna chest of drawers, designed by Charles A. Richter circa 1930. The amboyna top with a satinwood cross banded border over an arrangement of five graduated drawers with a border of rosewood, satinwood and mother of pearl in a cross-hatched design, with a rosewood plinth base and raised on flat bun feet. The drawers with replacement satin brass handles. One drawer with Bath Cabinet Makers (CBA) circular plaque, the back stamped with the number '22304 5182 2' and the retailers label for 'Alfred Allen, Furnishing Expert, Hill St and John Bright St, Birmingham'.

In very good condition throughout. The handles being replacements.

Bath Cabinet Makers Ltd. were working in Bath between 1892 - 1959 producing high quality furniture. Under the management of head designer Charles A Richter (1876–1945) until 1934. Its furniture was regularly illustrated in The Studio Magazine and sold at high end stores such as Maples and Harrods in London. They won many international prizes including at the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley of 1924 and the Paris Exhibition of 1925. A variety of styles were produced, from Parisian-inspired versions of 'Adam' to Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Arts and Crafts and streamlined Modern, often using a large range of exotic woods and veneers. They designed and supplied the furniture and fittings for Cunard's luxury liners, the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth.

With a lifelong passion for the subject, Lisa has worked in the word of art and antiques for over 25 years.  Sixteen of these were spent as a Director of an Auctioneers in London before moving to South West France with her husband Marc Allum to restore a rambling 17th Century Chateau, which they used as base to host art and antique holidays. 
 
After returning to the UK in 2012, Hand of Glory was born, offering an eclectic mix of antiques, objects and.... in the words of John Tradescant; 'anything strang (sic)'
 
In addition to running Hand of Glory, Lisa also writes for various magazines.
 
Clients are welcome to view pieces at the shop opened in November 2019 at 34 Market Place, Chippenham, Wiltshire SN15 3HP. Opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Other times by appointment.
