JOSEPHINE RYAN ANTIQUESBy Appointment
Josephine Ryan has been in the antiques business for some twenty five odd years. Having had three shops in this time and regularly exhibiting at various fairs, in particular the well known Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair in Battersea Park, London where she became widely recognised through her distinct style which always turns heads.
At Josephine Ryan Antiques you will find a cross selection of items from country furniture, sculpture, art and bizarre ephemera all crossing the eras and nationalities, cleverly mixing her metaphors. Styled uniquely and unexpectedly offering show stopping drama and romance. Jesus Mary and Joseph are a speciality, these icons mostly sold as art rather than as devotional objects.
Josephine, a darling of the Interiors press in the 1990's, led to a contract with a publishing house which combined her rich knowledge of art, antiques and interiors with the love of the written word, has seen her produce four books to date. French Home, Essentially French, Essentially Irish and Hidden Ireland.
While buying speculatively, she also has a coquetry of private clients and devotees for whom she undertakes projects and buys to order, collaborating to create for them a world of beautiful interiors and she loves nothing more then finding the perfect piece.
Over the past ten years she has restored and furnished a home in the South of France for herself, so makes regular trips unearthing the unexpected whilst scouring at every English fair and bidding at the odd Irish auction - her inventory is catholic!
Recognising the change in retail and the (sad) demise of many antique shops, she has embraced the online world, having had an active web presence since they became 'the thing' and has recently become an obsessive compulsive Instagrammer.
