An incredible, 19th Century Biedermeier ash escritoire with its original black fossil marble top. At the top half is a good sized desk surface with a beautiful, original tooled leather writing insert. The interior behind the fall features a large pigeon hole with ebonised pillars and five stationery drawers of different sizes. In the bottom half of the cabinet there are two cupboard doors and inside there are four fine quality fitted drawers.
Both sides have very special features on this cabinet as they are fitted in the same way as the front, complete with ebonised pillars and drawers, again having writing slides with leather inserts. Behind a pillar is a small knob that when pressed, shoots out three secret drawers. Standing on rectangular moulded block feet.
This is a superb escritoire, of fantastic cabinet work, and the amount of high quality work that has gone into it would amount to many months. It would be very expensive to have this made today.
