A bamboo fishing rod and rack

19th Century bamboo fishing rod or roach pole, by Sowerbutts, 151 Commercial St. London. 5-piece, hollow bamboo with nickel silver butt piece inscribed with makers name, total length over 5m long, displayed on an oak rack. English, circa 1880.

90cm H, 120cm W (as displayed on the rack)

Condition: This beautifully preserved roach pole is in wonderful condition, the colour is bright and the surface finish wonderful. Displayed on a custom built display rack in the style of a 19th Century whip rack.

A roach pole is used to accurately place bait over a specific spot in the water without having to cast a line.
