Item Description

In the early 1800s, Jeremiah Colman began making mustard at a water mill near Norwich (England)... Jeremiah founded Colman's of Norwich in 1814. From 1855 the firm introduced its distinctive yellow packaging and bull's head logo, and in 1866 was granted the Royal Warrant as manufacturers of mustard to Queen Victoria. (Her Majesty's household still uses Colman's!). This large enamel sign for Colman's 'D.S.F' (Double Super Fine) Mustard is dated to 1930 and has survived the decades in particularly good order. It retains it's vibrant colours and a deep surface gloss. There are some patches of enamel loss, but only around the outer edges, none on the main face of the sign. There are, inevitably, some areas of surface scratching but these are fairly minimal - the angled photos give a better understanding of the surface gloss and any scratching. The sign can be hung using it's original mounting holes and measures 96.5cm wide x 92cm high.
