Lovely pair of Italian early 19th century lamp tables with original hand- painted and Lacca Povera decoration. Featuring Trompe l’oeil painted marble tops. The cupboards panels with whimsical scenes and figures made from clippings from black and white print periodicals of the time.
This design was extremely popular during the 18th century and into the 19th century, originally an alternative to the more costly hand-lacquered Japanned pieces. The 'lacca povera' decorated pieces became a fashionable choice in their own right.
A fantastic pair of side tables that would look great alongside a bed or in a study.
