Paul Reniere was born in Poperinge on November 23, 1956. He studied printmaking at the Saint-Lucas Academy for fine arts in Ghent where he graduated in 1980. In 1982 he became laureate for the “Gaverprijs” for painting and won the Europa prize for painting. He was appointed teacher of free graphics and painting at the Poperinge Academy of Art in 1981, a position he held until 2014.

Martine Depla was born in Ostend on December 29, 1954. She studied biology at Ghent University, but did not finish her studies. In 1991 she enrolled at the Poperinge Academy of Art where Paul Reniere became her teacher. In 1995 Martine Depla became laureate of the Louise Dehem prize for painting and in 1996 she won the prize for painting in Harelbeke, Belgium.

During the initial years of their relationship the artistic work of Paul Reniere and Martine Depla remained separate, and they exhibited under their own names. In 1995 they presented their work together for the first time under the name ‘Reniere & Depla’. Since then they have made no distinction as to whom painted which work.

Molly and Maud's specialise in beautiful, interesting and unusual decorative antiques and art.  The business is run by mother and daughter team Karen and Chloe. Karen's passion for interior design and the arts inspired Chloe from a young age. They travel extensively, acquiring their stock which is displayed in their showroom, online and at fairs around the UK. They regularly ship items worldwide.

In 2013 whilst hunting for premises for their expanding stock, they realised that the orchard behind Karen's house was a perfect starting point for them, but it already had two resident pet lambs named 'Molly and Maud'.  A new home was quickly found for them in a neighbouring field, a wooden building was then purchased and so began 'Molly and Maud's Place'. In 2016 they expanded further by building a new showroom on the premises.

The business is based in the village of Kirk Hammerton in North Yorkshire, midway between York and Harrogate just four miles from the A1(M).

The showroom is open every Saturday 10-4, at other times visitors are very welcome by appointment.
