Still Life by Herbert Schneider

20th century oil on canvas of a still life by Herbert Schneider (1924-1983). The painting is unsigned but has the artist’s stamp on the back.

Height 50cm x Width 76cm.

Herbert Schneider was a German visual artist who was born in 1924.

He studied under the guidance of Willi Baumeister at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. His works feature diverse influences of art history, including Henri Matisse and the Fauvism. Bavarian folk art also inspired him deeply. Schneider’s works oscillate between abstraction and representation and are often executed in bright colours.

Schnieder died in 1983.

Molly and Maud's specialise in beautiful, interesting and unusual decorative antiques and art.  The business is run by mother and daughter team Karen and Chloe. Karen's passion for interior design and the arts inspired Chloe from a young age. They travel extensively, acquiring their stock which is displayed in their showroom, online and at fairs around the UK. They regularly ship items worldwide.

In 2013 whilst hunting for premises for their expanding stock, they realised that the orchard behind Karen's house was a perfect starting point for them, but it already had two resident pet lambs named 'Molly and Maud'.  A new home was quickly found for them in a neighbouring field, a wooden building was then purchased and so began 'Molly and Maud's Place'. In 2016 they expanded further by building a new showroom on the premises.

The business is based in the village of Kirk Hammerton in North Yorkshire, midway between York and Harrogate just four miles from the A1(M).

The showroom is open every Saturday 10-4, at other times visitors are very welcome by appointment.
