Fyffe Christie (1918-1979) was a well-known painter, draughtsman, muralist and teacher. He was born in Bushey, Hertfordshire, and from the age of twelve he lived in Glasgow. During World War II he served in the Scottish Rifles and after leaving the services he studied at Glasgow School of Art, 1946-50. Christie had already started exhibiting his work by then, showing at both the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute between 1944 and 1955. In the 1950s he completed a large number of murals, including for Glasgow University and the Iona Community House. He moved to south-east London in 1957 with his wife Eleanor, a sculptor, and settled in Blackheath. Christie continued teaching art and with his murals. He was also noted for his drawings of schoolchildren, which were exhibited some years after his death at the Bethnal Green Museum of Childhood (1991), and for his paintings of the female nude. Christie and his wife held a joint show of their work at Woodlands Gallery (1979) and after his death there were a number of shows including an exhibition at Wimpole Hall, Cambridgeshire, accompanied by a monograph, Nature and Humanity, The Work of Fyffe Christie 1918-1979, published by Sansom & Company Ltd, which included a biographical essay by David Buckman.

I think I was always destined to have an interest in the world of Modern British Art and 20th Century design. My father wrote books on the subject in the 1970s and having grown up (literally!) surrounded by mainly 20th Century art, I began to take an interest myself in the late 1990s. My personal taste is in the work of artists such as Wlhelmina Barns-Graham, Lynn Chadwick, Alan Davie, Terry Frost, William Gear and Julian Trevelyan. In regard to furniture I collect, and sometimes deal in, pieces by designers including Poul Kjaerholm, Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen and Robin Day.

The website stocks paintings, drawings and prints mainly by well known Post War British Artists and I also have a few works by continental, American and Australian artists. I established the business in 2014 and this website operates alongside my first art business, which I formed in 2006. The Nick Waters Art stock is to be found on the Decorative Collective and the Retro Sixty stock is on the, the sister website to the Decorative Collective. Nick Waters Art mainly lists works priced at £500 or above and is generally likely to suit the more experienced collector and / or dealer, corporate collections or indeed public collections, some of whom we have worked with in the past. The prices always include shipping within mainland Great Britain, with items packed securely to a high standard, using recycled materials wherever possible, and shipped promptly. I do ship further afield and discounted prices to other locations are available on request (please see the contact form on the Decorative Collective website adjacent to my listings).

My father's business dealing in 20th Century art is also to be found on Decorative Collective.

I provide a condition report on each item with my listings on the Decorative Collective. The authenticity of each piece is guaranteed and a detailed receipt is issued on sale. If viewings of works in person is required, we are in Angmering, West Sussex, and viewings are possible, usually seven days a week, but by appointment only. Also further images of works for sale will be available on request.

I do hope you enjoy the visit to my site/s, and if I can help with anything, no matter how large or small, please feel free to ask. Thank you for looking.
