19th century arched French mirror, circa 1880, with narrow, outcurving frame decorated with a row of beading around the outside edge. Where this mirror has been cleaned for over 100 years, the gilding has thinned revealing the burnished dark terracotta bole and cream gesso beneath. The mirror is topped with a beautifully delicate, open, floral and foliate cartouche with a central, fanned, acanathus leaf. The original glass is in very good condition with just a little age and gives an excellent reflection. One piece of the panel back is missing but this will not harm the mirror, especially when it is hung in a centrally heated home and this mirror will work beautifully as an overmantel.
