"Cul Noir" (Black Bottom) Earthenware Dishes

Set of two Traditional rural pottery "Cul Noir" (Black Bottom) earthenware dishes from France in the 1800s.

Made of thick clay and glazed milky white where the dish had contact with food and black on the outside. Truly rustic, wabi-sabi esthetic.

As shown in the photos the glazing is crackled and aged and chipped off in areas, the larger dish has a crack running through it.

Sold as a set of two.

We are impassioned collectors who source from all over the world in pursuit of decorative antiques and vintage curiosities.

We sell an eclectic mix of furniture, homeware, mid-century design, industrial lighting and original artwork - all culminating into a modern aesthetic.  Our items are always authentic, full of character and a little out of the ordinary.

All our items are available to buy from our bricks and mortar shop in the heart of Bristol Old City or directly through our website.  However, as we have a fast turnover of stock, some pieces don't always make it online, so please do visit our call us if you have something specific in mind you are searching for.

We regularly work with interior designers helping them to furnish restaurants, bars and homes.

We ship nationally and internationally and offer free local delivery for many items.
