Pair of Antique Welsh Carved Oak Wainscot Chairs

Early Antique Chairs

A handsome pair with just the right amount of carving for my liking.

Naive, vernacular carved details which are hugely decorative.

Bought from a country house just over the Welsh border from Northern Shropshire.

One is signed ‘M.H.’ and dated ‘1719’ on the reverse panel.

Lovely rich colour and patina. There is wear and tear, old splits and minor repairs here and there as you would expect but these are part of their history. They are very solid and sturdy.

Each one measures: 110cm high x 63cm wide x 62cm deep. The seat height at the front is 49cm.

  • H: 110cm (43.31in)
  • W: 63cm (24.80in)
  • D: 62cm (24.41in)
