Original Antique Oil on Canvas Painting
Coming from a Cornish estate, it was said by the previous owners that the subject was a tin miner, although from the looks of it I would say he was not a man who got his hands dirty down the mine looking forward to his pasty at lunch. More the man who oversaw the operation.
Painted in an expressive yet somewhat naive style. I don’t think I would want to get on the wrong side of this stern so and so!
Unsigned, there may well be some information verso but don’t want to remove the back and will leave that decision to the purchaser.
In the original gilt gesso frame.
The painting is generally in good vintage order there are a few small areas of wear but nothing too serious and no holes or tears to the canvas. Please see photos.
Overall measurements: 82cm x 67cm x 5cm.
Period: 19th Century
