Large 19th Century French Portrait Mirror

An extraordinary portrait mirror, with original paintwork, gilt trim and plate.

From the 19th century but in a highly original art deco style. The frame is wide and deep and heavy, it feels luxurious without having resorted to fancy carving or gesso work. The gilding is restrained, classy and worn now to perfection. A very sophisticated design piece that appears decades ahead of it's time.

Large and impressive, at 170cm x 88cm, we can't think of anywhere this wouldn't look amazing. Hanging above a low console table, at the top of a stair well or just leant up against a bedroom wall: this is going to transform wherever it ends up.

Condition: The mirror plate is in original, unrestored condition and has foxing and some loss of silvering. This came to us with only one of the original backing boards, (the top board) the missing boards have been sympathetically replaced with antique timbers. There is a silver "patch" on one of the replacement boards to cover the largest area of missing silvering on the plate (a third of the way up the left side, please see images). Nibbles to the wood on the very inner part of the frame along the bottom

Generally in excellent condition, please refer to images and feel free to ask for more.

Will ship anywhere in mainland UK for £50, this will be with a dedicated one man courier. Please contact for International shipping quote or for hard to reach parts of the UK.

We are Rebecca Roche and Alex Coward.

Our background is in the visual arts, and we value craftsmanship and skill in all things.  This love for quality and beauty, and the scarcity of it in so much of modern manufacturing, has led us to this venture: A Bohemian boutique offering rare, unusual antiques, art pieces and vintage items for the home and garden.

Our style is not for the faint hearted!

We lean towards the highly decorative.  If you don't immediately recoil at the prospect of having a huge polychrome carved Balinese temple door in your living room you are in the right place.  We don't do beige or magnolia and we may not be the landlords go to choice, but why choose neutrals when you can have Turquoise or Gold?

We like painted things, woven things, carved things and gilded things.  If it is unique and beautiful, if the hand of the artist is present, we like it.  We love great design, elegant lines, bold colour. And gilded things.

We source items from across the ages, from 18th Century Asia to 20th Century Europe.  We want to help you create bespoke interiors, to mix and match; to provide an eclectic, rich, opulent and exotic living environment.
