Coro key pin, sterling silver with gold gilt, 1940`s USA. This has a heraldic design features intertwined serpents accented by red, blue & green cabochons and clear rhinestones in a goldwashed sterling setting. The serpents have green cabochons for eyes. This piece is in excellent vintage condition with no visible wear. This vintage Coro pin has an applied tag mark stamped `Sterling` and `Corocraft` and an image of a Pegasus. The patent number for this Coro key brooch is 125161 and was granted in 1941. Gift box included. The metal composition in this vintage Coro brooch is referred to as vermeil which is sterling silver coated with gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 10 carat (42%) and at least 2.5 micrometres thick. Vermeil was used in the 1940`s when resources were limited and this is part of it`s appeal to collectors.
