Item Description

A large Ceramic stoneware Sculpture attributed to Gustave Tiffoche, Saint-Nazaire France b 1930 - d 2011. Of incredible size for ceramic work, this circa 1970 'Brutalist' inspired work was formerly in a private collection which included several Tiffoche pieces. Although without signature, this piece closely resembles other work in grés by Tiffoche and could have been experimental work by the artist. Such large works have difficulty surviving the high temperatures of the firing process and indeed this piece bears a perfectly stable but hairline 'firing' fracture to the top of the circle - as seen in the detailed photograph. Comprised of 3 sections; ribbed base, outer circle and inner circle, the sculpture dry fits together. This is a very well composed sculptural work of art with super textural, surface colour and Design detail and of impressive scale.
