Italian candlestick

19th Century Italian carved-wood urn candlestick

We are proud to offer an Italian carved-wood urn, with single candlestick, in bird motif, dated from the 19th century. This antique single-candlestick holder from Italy features three-dimensionally carved urn, with fluted embellishments, and having two handles flanking each side in the shape of a bird. Raised upon a stacked square base with its original toleware candle pricket still in place, with arched cut-out along each side. With a lovely, aged patina paint in gold gilt with has faded and flaked in areas shown.

Size in inches approx.: H18” x W 11” x D 6”
Period: 19th Century
Material: Pine Wood
Origin: Italy
Condition: Aged

Completely solid in structure and form, aged naturally across the surface showing loss of detail. Much of the gilt paint has worn and faded showing some of the underneath pine. There are aged repairs to the item and the reverse (not visible when displayed) shows the gesso work where the item has been repaired over time. There are light visual fractures to the neck of the bird detail as shown also. The bottom of the item shows old worm holes (there are long gone) but we have treated it once more to make sure. A naturally aged object which has stood the test of time, so please expect age related wear as the photos aim to show however it is exceedingly difficult to photograph all the areas on this piece. Therefore, we strongly suggest reviewing all the photos provided as part of this advert and propose questions where sections / condition is unclear to avoid disappointment when purchasing.
