Jeu de Massacre c.1900

THE HOUSE OF ANTIQUES
19th Century Carved Wood Pair of Jeu de Massacre Fairground Antique

A set of super rare antique fairground knockdown artefacts (Jeu de Massacre) from France. These items are in overall wonderful original condition without any breaks or damage. Rare to market because of their subject matter and look. The items are stamped and are completely original. Highly decorative and very collectable.

The Jeu de Massacre was a common game in French fairgrounds modelled on local or national figures or enemy’s. They were hinged on a platform and balls were thrown to knock them down. They are becoming harder to find and this pair are very rare to market and highly collectable and decorative, a true collectors piece of fairground antique artefacts. The items are completely in original condition very decorative and artistic in appearance and hold a very nostalgic visual effect.

Dimensions: Red Item H 20” x W 6” x D 3” / Blue H 19.5” x W 5.5” x D 2.5”

Condition: The item completely solid and structurally sound, they are both weathered and worn with a great patina and colour to them as shown in the photos provided. The worm holes have been treated many years ago, the paint shows cracking but is firm and very secure. The hinges show signs of rust and age also as you would expect. Great overall condition for an item of this age and use a super rare and decorative piece of folk art fairground history.
