Armorial Coat of Arms circa 1820
We are proud to offer a rare example of an early 19th Century Armorial coat of arms. For the Chamerlayne family, from the roll of battle abbey AD 1066. A lovely oil painted onto intricately woven canvas still in its original gold gilt frame, recently discovered in a large estate attic in Hastings (United Kingdom). Completely untouched in form.

History: Armorial Bearing of the Chamberlayne family of Much Dewchurch, Herfordshire. The Battle Abbey Roll is a commemorative list, lost since at least the 16th century, of the companions of William the Conqueror, which had been erected or affixed as a memorial within Battle Abbey, Hastings, founded ex-voto by Duke William on the spot of the slaying of King Harold in the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

Material: fine canvas and wood

Condition: This item is completely solid in structure and form, aged patina with weathering has taken place across all the surfaces. Age old repairs across gold sections of the frame are present, there is an old repair to the bottom right hand side of the oil painting as shown in the photos provided.
