Armorial shield

THE HOUSE OF ANTIQUES
19th Century Hand Carved Armorial shield
We are proud to offer a wonderful example of a 19th Century hand carved pine family armorial shield. Engraved across the scroll reads LIBER ET AUD which roughly translated means Liber - Child or offspring, et – and, Aud- Bold. Some truly lovely craftsmanship has gone into creating this highly decorative object. This item still has most of its original polychrome paint intact also. With its original wrought iron hanging hook firmly in place at the rear.
Size in inches approx.: Large set– H 11” x W 17” x D 4”
Origin: Unknown
Date: mid-19th Century
Material: Pine
Condition: This item is completely solid in structure and form. Obvious age is shown in loss of paint, chips across the wood and a light patina across its surface. Without any breaks of losses. Its strongly suggested to review all the photos provided carefully and propose any questions where details are unclear before a purchase is made.

Period:

1850

It’s quite simple. We buy what we like. We believe that extraordinary items are owned by extraordinary people who live in extraordinary spaces. We are driven by the passion to unearth and offer the most unusual, decorative and rarest objects.

Our house style is probably best described as artistic, theatrical and, even macabre.

We often get asked by our clients, “Where did you find that?” The answer is always the same. Look hard enough and you will find what you seek.
