Tea Plantation Chair

Tea Plantation Folk-Art Carved Chair c.1890
We are very proud to offer a finely hand carved late 19th Century tea plantation folk-art chair. Recently uncovered from an interior designers’ home in London, it originally belonged to her grandfather whilst he lived in Munnar India. We were told that he owned land on a section of a tea plantation and was one of the few items he bought back to England. The item is quite amazing in detail and craftsmanship, carved flowers, sun depictions, leaves, pineapple, snake, angels, winged centre angel figure and Gargoyles at both hand rests.
Size in inches approx.: H 56” x W 25” x D 25”
Condition: This item is completely solid in structure and form. A natural aged patination is visible across the surface of the wooden sections, wear across the gargoyles faces and arm rests due to use and age. There are several old aged worm holes in the rear of the back rest, but these are long gone.

It’s quite simple. We buy what we like. We believe that extraordinary items are owned by extraordinary people who live in extraordinary spaces. We are driven by the passion to unearth and offer the most unusual, decorative and rarest objects.

Our house style is probably best described as artistic, theatrical and, even macabre.

We often get asked by our clients, “Where did you find that?” The answer is always the same. Look hard enough and you will find what you seek.
