19th C Embroidered Silk Work Memento Mori Scene

THE SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL
A hand embroidered work in muted colours, typical of the scene and subject. The piece would off likely been produced by a young woman and taken many hours to complete.

The image depicts a lady in mourning, stood within a church graveyard, looking wistfully at a stone monument. Some areas of damage, a spilt in the silk ground (middle centre), some plucked stitches as shown within the photographs but overall nothing you wouldn't expect for its age and the materials used. The picture is housed in a substation mahogany frame with gilt slip, the piece is also glazed.

Early 19th century in age, English in origin 61cm in width, 59cm in height, 5cm in depth

Period:

19th Century
