19th C. William Wilson, Sailors Ink Sketches

THE SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL
An interesting trio of framed and glazed sketches, believed to of been executed by the sailor William Wilson circa 1860.

One depicting a drunken sailor, 'A Sea Lion', with banner above his head inscribed 'Jack Three Sheets in the Wind Drunk', another the account of a journey from Liverpool to Melbourne and back, 1858 - 1859 with the most wonderful typography, and another of a top sail inscribed 'William Wilson', Liverpool 1858.

Age related dark spots, staining to papers. Each sketch is framed in a typical turn of the century ebonised and gilt frame One frame has an elderly repair in the bottom left as shown within the imagery. One label is still visible on the reverse "third avenue picture and framing shop new York"
