Chinese Chippendale style gilt frame mirror

A Chinese Chippendale style gilt frame mirror, in carved wood and gilded. In the Rococo manner of Chippendale and depicting foliate and scroll designs and topped with a Ho Ho bird. 970mm high, 1330mm wide and 100mm deep. Mid 20th century.

The Ho Ho bird is a mythical adaptation of Japanese and Chinese birds said to live in the highest regions of the air. Their descent to earth was meant to bring good tidings, while their depiction in art symbolized high Virtue and grace.
