Item Details

17th century London made bronze mortar from the Bartlet's foundry. When Thomas Bartlet died in 1632 the foundry came to his son, Anthony. As he was a minor at this time the running of the foundry was taken over by the foreman at that time; one John Clifton. He run the Whitechapel foundry for the next eight years and the patterns used around the present mortar are attributable to him during this time. English, London, Whitechapel circa 1635.
