Ludwig Guttenbrunn was born at Krens near Vienna and became 'Painter to the Archduke of Austria'. He came to London in 1789 and exhibited 17 works at the Royal Academy between 1790 & 1795 and then became Court Painter at St. Petersburg from 1795 until around 1805. He was last recorded at Rome in 1813 and gifted a self portrait to the Uffizi.
