Item Description

Showing the charming influence of Liverpool delftware tiles dating from the eighteenth century, eleven tiles decorated by Rosalind Ord.
When early in the 1930s two schoolteachers, Sylvia Packard and Rosalind Ord, found that their mutual interest in painting ceramic tiles could earn them a living, they established the partnership of Packard and Ord, in Barnfield, Marlborough.
Queen Mary and Fortnum and Mason were regular customers, and examples are to be found in the V&A and private collections world wide.
These hand-painted tiles are all initialled OR for the artist and measure 4 inches square.
English circa 1935.
The holly in berry tile is of a different firing and thereby of a different tone to the remaining ten.
