Item Description

Mezzotint, published by Paul and Dominic Colnaghi & Co, July 1st 1842.
Engraved by Henry Cousins after the portrait painted by Charles Robert Leslie.
A fine mezzotint in excellent condition.
Unframed. Sheet size: 19 in x 15 7/8 in. Substantial margins beyond the plate mark.
In 1809, William Howley was appointed Regius Professor of Divinity at Oxford University. He was consecrated Bishop of London in 1813, a post he occupied for fifteen years until being appointed Archbishop of Canterbury. Howley served as Archbishop of Canterbury for twenty years from 1828 to 1848.
